Feel like shit today
Damn.. I was goin good. Felt great eetc. Yesterday I shot a near perfect score at archery, knee didn't hurt shoulders felt great.. But I did go to the VA for my annual. They gave me two injections, one for Whooping cough and pneumonia and the other a Tetanus update.. Also gave me a knee brace.. Today. Woke up feeling like like the south end of a north bound mule. No ambition feel shitty, knee in pain. Went and did a bit of shooting and came home.. Ended up taking a long nap.. Still feelin shitty. I am thinkin the vacinations are gettin to me..

According to TV, I have to worry about shingles since I had chicken pox.
Listen up TV, I just had my roof replaced!

What the fuck is a pension?
Shit, I was never under the allusion I was going to be taken care of by a corporation, or
govt entity in any form. I trade my time for $$. The rest is up to me.

I have a pretty sweet pension. Employer contributes $1.24 for every $1.00 I put in. Defined contribution, indexed to inflation.
Still not going to rely on it. Have my own savings plan.

Not uncommon. A vaccine is an attenuated version of the real deal. It works by eliciting an immune response, which is why you might feel crappy for a few days - your body thinks it's encountered the real deal, even though it hasn't.

That's pretty good!
I get dollar for dollar match into a 401k on the first 6% of my salary I put in.

We don't have 401k's here, we have TFSA and RRSP (Tax Free Savings Account and Registered Retirement Savings Plan). Neither has employer matching IIRC.
TFSA = no tax on gains made on invested funds in account
RRSP = amount contributed in the year is deducted from your income when determining income taxes owed
Both have limits that I can't quite remember. I have an auto-deposit each payday for a reasonable amount that gets split between the two. Up to $15000 from RRSP can be used for a first-time home purchase as well.

Re: Feel like shit today
Luckily I snuck out while company retirements were in vogue.. I pulled 4 retirements and an investment fund.. Still have a tidy sum in my company 401K. But the guys at work have had their company retirement froze. Now they just get the 401 K match.. Nice thing is they can take it with them when they leave the company. Me I had to keep track of everywhere that owed me retirement funds.. Company retirements are going the way of the Dodo..

Definitely. Not many folks my age have a pension option. Girlfriend is a teacher and I'm in healthcare, two of the few arenas that seem to offer them.

Re: Feel like shit today
Healthcare is an interesting math paradigm for me (got certified as an EMT when I retired since it is fun to ride around with lights and sirens, and go into people's houses and look at their shit). I found emergency medicine to be highly scripted all the way up to and through the hospital ER where there are real doctors. There is no thinking involved. As I was told by my instructors many times, if you have to think you are likely to screw up - follow the fucking script. Which comes back to the math. Emergency medicine uses a minimax algorithm - forget about optimality. You do what is least likely to result in a bad outcome. Of course medical people are notoriously poor mathematicians. The script has evolved by trial and error looking at 10's of thousands of episodes, but it is a very very good script (do I need to segway into my fondness for Monte Carlo?). I don't find myself thinking at all - just know your equipment inside and out, and follow the fucking script.

Re: Feel like shit today
Hopefully this pans out :
I got 20 credits built up
[url=https://flic.kr/p/FMf647]
13 years of pumping concrete with boom pumps
we all heard the "jokes" about how you only get 3 checks and then get checked out by the black ops operators
Federal Social Security could be headed that way too "early retirement" could take on a whole new meaning under medicare....I notice how they sure are eager to push that.
I know Im just being paranoid

Fair assessment. Priority number 1 is "Don't fuck up, follow procedures". Once you get to the specialists things get a bit more interesting.
I work in cancer clinical trials, so the MD's I'm around are have a more statistical bent than is probably the norm.
