I'll be curious to see how the "need my name engraved in my free shit" crowd handles this one. This guard is very close to what I have on CAD, missing a lower tank spigot guard and probably a little heavy in aluminum, but these are implementing what the designers intend for the shroud air to do, which is continue being directed through the rad, rather than being swirled away from a frontal obstruction. Wind tunnel tested they claim, I dunno if that is true or not. I have seen, even been a part of some "stretched" claims when launching BPD, not proud of it. Take this for what it is worth as I am basically a design nerd with very sharp marketing skills.

I was just talking with on of my old racing buddies who I am getting ready to build a pool for, I have accepted that I am, well for lack of a better word disabled and racing and extreme trail riding like I loved for so many years is out of reach for me, has been since CO in 2010, NEPG in 09. I cant test these yet...BUT, if I keep moving forward like I plan to I will give my money to these upstart designers and give them a try when I buy a bike and try to relearn what came so naturally for me pre-09 (as I fall ALOT now lol)

GREAT guard, thanks for the link MikeS300! Check them out folks, this is exactly what i wanted BPD to go to years ago. Now that are playing catchup, so is SRT for that matter.

Those look nice, a little heavy but nice.

B&B Offroad from Australia has been doing a design for several years that I really like.

B&B is still stamped, not strong enough imo and spreads the shrouds with a pretty complicated mounting system. There is better on the market already imo. Wondering about the weight myself, but with them being beer can material, they are probably around 12oz a side. BPD and SRT are around 8-10oz, if a guy went crazy with the custom vanity engraving on BPD, they got pretty lightweight, but also lost strength.

That is why I started exploring alternative carbon materials and even polymers. Billet will end up obsolete within 5 years for much of this especially with 3D printing, that much you can count on

Looks like it would act as a heat sink too.

When i was first kicking off BPD on Ktalk, the advertised weight was 9oz per side, very attractive in that it just didn't add much weight up top. The SRT's I bought were forgings, which is stronger, although that is debatable among motorsports enthusiasts, but they were pretty solid 14oz per side, little heavier, but nothing I ever felt.

B&B I tried to buy a pair of back in 2010 for my SX after the split with Nate at BPD, almost impossible to ever get any response from their customer service dept. That was when I bought a set of SRT's, full retail mind you Smile , was pretty please with the prooduct. Clipboard HATED the pictures on Ktalk and almost immediately was all over me for the guards being a copycat, not being made in USA. Lets face it, we didnt see a whole line fo people lining up to buy Cannondales when those bikes came out, the whole KTM lineup is from across the pond.

I dont know where these are made, but I imagine they are made overseas as it doesnt say "Made in USA" anywhere. That will send clipboard into a dither on his Austrian/India/Japanese supplied bike.

IF i was a betting sort, and they claim to have done wind tunnel testing, these guards will help some of the bikes that have overheating issues by keeping that airflow intact. I did my own informal testing with my sensitive 300. I posted this on KTalk years ago and that was the beginning of the trouble years: with louvers, the bike remained happy on a slower/technical area we would ride. I put on the frontal type from BPD, it ran hotter roughly 15-20 degrees at the rad with my temp gun. Took the guards off and ran nothing, temps dropped. Put the louvers back on, the temps were actually a few degrees lower, meaning the louvers were doing what was intended, moving air properly across the fins.

it was informal, take it for what it is worth, but that is when I started working on a design to implement that design intention as well as strength. I'm pretty impressed with this guard. I may never really have a need to buy them, BUT if I ever get to point where I can ride again without falling over, maybe even dare i say, enter a race Smile , these guards are probably going on the bike. never needed vanity engraving, that is about the only downside I can see the bling crowd finding fault with.

The heat sink effect was total marketing, we never had any basis for that claim other than we knew aluminum would pull heat, but not to the extent of the claims.

High strength polymers or other alternative materials will actually run closer to ambient temp, formal testing should be used to determine if that is good or bad, but my rather simple mind says keeping that guard cool is better overall for the air flowing though it.

I'm just still jazzed to see the design finally hit the market, blame it on MikeS for tagging me on the link and getting me all happified up.

Acutally the B&B is using a combination of CNC machined 6000 series 3 dimensional aluminium extrusion and 5000 series alloy plate.

Don't get me wrong, the Flo guards look to be one of the best ones to come out as of late. I prefer a louver design such as the Flo models. I still am curious as to the weight.
