New Bike Search
Ok, not necessarily new, but new to me. I was thinking about this this morning as I was scrubbing my ass in the shower, bikes are not as specific use as say in the 80's and 90's. We have MX bikes and then what used to be enduro or totally offroad specific are now kind of crossover bikes, or do it all local guy bikes, meaning go ride some trails, do a HS, race or practice some local moto, but nothing enduro specific in design right out of the box.
I got to thinking the last bike I had purchased new that didnt need anything other than setting the oil height, spring rate and shock sag for hacky offroad was my 97 KTM250EXC, totally built for enduro, nothing else. Yes it was a little heavy, yes it was too soft for anything other than local intermediate MX. But man, I could ride that bike all day long in the hackiest stuff AR could throw at us, in fact ridden the same places since 96 and no bike since that 97 could match it for suspension compliance and handling right out of the box.
So, that brings me to the current dilema. I dont want a 20 year old bike, I'd like to have something modern but really dont want to do the typical KTM dance of revalving to suit. Is the Beta breaking in nicely and a good used bike? I really like the older pre-12 Gassers and after riding Logans YZ125, pretty damn impressed with the SSS forks.
MikeS will never sell his 300 evidently, which is setup damned near perfect with its Ohlins suspension, but what is a good used bike to be looking for? I'm thinking unless it is a YZ250, I want to stay around 2011-2014. Is Beta seeing robust resale or seeing the GG effect in that they dont bring much used?
Oh, and the first person who suggests a slant berg gets time out . I still get eye twitch over that 390

That is a 14, "supposedly" has the kinks worked out the 12-13's had.
Seat height is the same as the 2011's. 37"....Betas are 36.4" IIRC.
That Reiger shock is supposed to be pretty sweet.
